DHAKA, Jan 29, 2025 (BSS) - Chief Adviser's Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam has said none will be allowed to hold protests under the banner of fallen Awami League (AL). 

"Anyone dares to hold illegal protests under AL banner will face full power of the law," he wrote a post on his verified Facebook account today.

Since it took over in early August, he said, the interim government has not stopped or banned any lawful protests. "We believe in freedom of assembly and freedom of association," he said.

The press secretary said one report this morning showed that at least 136 protests took place alone in Dhaka in the past five and a half months. 

"Some of these protests triggered massive traffic congestion. Yet, the interim government has never imposed any restrictions on the protests," he said. 

"But should we allow the Fascist Awami League party to hold protests?" he questioned.

Alam said the video footages of July and August clearly show that AL party activists took part in the killings of peaceful protesters who included young students and minor child.

The party leadership headed by Sheikh Hasina was responsible for the massacres, murders and mayhem during the July mass uprising, he said.

Alam said: "Yesterday, New York-based Human Rights Watch said, quoting officers interviewed by the reputed rights group, that Hasina directly ordered killings and enforced disappearances during the 16 years of her dictatorship."

He said Sheikh Hasina has led a Chortantra (Kleptocracy) and murderous regime. 

Under her watch, US$ 234 billion were siphoned off by her cronies, according to an independent panel, the press secretary said. Hasina's family is now being investigated for making billions of dollars from corrupt deals, he said. 

In addition, he said, some 3,500 people became victims of enforced disappearances, some 3,000 people were extra-judicially killed, and protesters were massacred at Shapla Chattar and after the verdict of Maulana Sayedee. 

"Police became Police League, and some six million opposition activists were slapped with fake and Gayebi cases. Even the country's first Hindu Chief Justice was brutally beaten, forced to resign and sent into exile," Alam said. 

He said unless AL apologises for these massacres, killings and blatant corruption and until its tainted leaders and activists submit to justice system and they are purged and tried over their crimes -- and until AL separates itself from its current leadership and its Fascist ideology, in no way it will be allowed to hold protests. 

"Did the Mitra Bahini allow the Nazis to hold protests?" he questioned.

The press secretary said no country on earth allows a bunch of killers and corrupt gangs to stage a comeback and no country allows a reset without accountability. 

He said the interim government represents the will of the Bangladeshi people who will react to the protest by the killers. 

"We will not allow any attempts to push the country into violence," Alam said.
