DHAKA, Feb 8, 2025 (BSS) - Law Adviser Dr Asif Nazrul today said political consensus is needed to implement the immediate reforms proposed by the six reform commissions before holding the next general elections. 

"The full reports of the six reform commissions have already been uploaded on the Cabinet Division's website...they (Commissions) have given some immediate reform proposals separately," he told a press briefing at Foreign Service Academy here this evening. 

The law adviser said the commissions suggested that steps can be taken to implement the immediate reform proposals from tomorrow and they think these proposals should be implemented before the next polls.

The interim government, he said, has already implemented some of these proposals and some could be implemented through executive orders but political consensus is an urgent to implement some immediate reforms proposed by the commissions. 

Highlighting the recommendations of the commissions, Asif Nazrul said the Public Administration Reform Commission suggested forming a permanent Public Administration Reform Commission.

It also suggested preparing a new code of conduct for the government officials, holding public hearing and forming citizens committees at district and upazila levels and minimising the number of ministries and divisions, he said.

Besides, the law adviser said, the Public Administration Reform Commission proposed creating two new divisions in the country and digitalisation of sub-registrar offices.

About the proposals of the Judiciary Reform Commission, he said it recommended preparing a policy for the transfer of judicial officers, a code of conduct for the officials, introducing the permanent government attorney service, establishing commercial courts and hiring judicial staff through the Judicial Service Commission. 

Asif Nazrul said the commission also suggested taking e-judiciary project, opening information desk, preventing politics on court premises and hiring retired judges to ease case backlogs and so on.

He said the Election Reform Commission suggested updating voter list and demarcation of constituencies. 

Chief Adviser's Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam and Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumder were present at the briefing.
