DHAKA, Feb 13, 2025 (BSS) - Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus today said he will return to his work after handing over power to an elected government through a free and fair election.

He made the remarks while speaking at an interactive plenary session of the World Governments Summit (WGS) at its venue in Dubai, the UAE.

The session was moderated by Becky Anderson of CNN, according to a message received here.

Responding to a query, Prof Yunus said the interim government is putting emphasis on ensuring law and order and rebuilding the country, society, and institutions, which completely failed under the previous autocratic Sheikh Hasina government.

He said the government is going through a process of reforms to rebuild the country.
The chief adviser mentioned that his government established 15 different reform commissions focusing on law and order, police administration, the constitution, the election system, and other areas.

"These commissions are reporting back with their suggestions and recommendations on necessary changes. Now, we have what we call a consensus-building commission. We will go to the political parties and so on, see which are the recommendations all agree on," he said.

"So that we take that as a charter and then implement an important election," Yunus added.
The interim government is getting support from international community in building a new Bangladesh, Prof Yunus said.

He said the country' s economy was broken down completely during the fascist regime while US$ 16 billion was stolen from banking sector.

Replying to another query, the chief adviser said there was no fair election in Bangladesh in the last 16 years.

About social business, he said the main objective of social business is to resolve social problems.
