DHAKA, Feb 15, 2025 (BSS) – Attorney General Md Asaduzzaman today said the BDR carnage that took place at its headquarters in Pilkhana in 2009, was a part of international plotting  to stay Awami League in power.

“It was not a revolution of any kind, it was a planned massacre. We have lost best sons of our nation in that carnage. Then Awami League government had given birth of anarchism across the country through the killings of 57 Army officials,” he said.

The attorney general however, said, “There are allegations that cadres of Bangladesh Chhatra League and Jubo League had taken part in the massacre, wearing uniform of the then BDR. Many masterminds of that incident are still out of reach, but process is on to bring them to justice.”

He made the remarks while addressing the “Shadow Parliament” on BDR carnage as the chief guest. Debate for Democracy organized the event at Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) here with Chairman of the organization Hassan Ahamed Chowdhury Kiron in the chair.

In an oblique reference, the attorney general said a foreign state had helped to establish a reign of looting in Bangladesh by extending hands of friendship. That state has now stood up before the people of Bangladesh by harboring people involved in murders and enforced disappearances through violation of international law,” he added.

Speaking on the occasion, Debate for Democracy Chairman organization Hassan Ahamed Chowdhury Kiron, the Pilkhana massacre took place within two months after the Awami League came to power for the second time under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina.

“It was a black chapter of the country’s history. This murder was committed in a bid to push a severe blow on sovereignty of the country. That massacre was not committed to fulfill any demands, but to weaken the army and to make sure that BDR doesn’t remain as a strong force,” he said.

He further said that although there was a scope to stop the Pilkhana massacre through the army intervention. But, an attempt was made to show the people that it was being dealt politically. Although there was a patrol team of RAB near the Durbar Hall, they were not allowed to enter Pilkhana to suppress the rebellion at the initial stage, he added.
