DHAKA, Feb 17, 2025 (BSS) - Home Adviser Lieutenant General (retd) Md 
Jahangir Alam Chowdhury today called upon all to remain alert about the 
motive behind the mobs over various issues.
 
"We have been able to control every mob disrupting public life. Different 
crowds are creating troubles over various issues. We are entrusted with 
controlling all the crowds. We all have to remain cautious to know who is 
creating trouble for which reason," he said. 
 
The Home Adviser made the remarks as his attention was drawn about anarchy 
created by a group of people under the banner of 'Touhidi Jananta' after he 
attended the 30th founding anniversary of the Bangladesh Coast Guard (BCG) 
and 'Bangladesh Coast Guard Day-2025' celebration as the chief guest at its 
headquarters in Agargaon here. 
 
In replying to a question, the adviser said police verification has been 
lifted for issuing passports to give the people a relief from the sufferings.
 
"We have been thinking about withdrawing police verification to get passports 
for a long time. We have given the public relief from suffering," he said. 
 
About the possibility of getting Bangladeshi passports by the Rohingya people 
with lifting the police verification, he said it would not be easy for 
Rohingyas to get passports as it cannot be issued without voter identity 
cards. 
 
"Therefore, we are working to ensure that the Rohingyas do not get national 
identity cards. Those (Rohingyas) who have already received them will be 
scrutinized," he said.
 
The adviser said that the BCG has been entrusted with providing security to 
riverine and coastal areas, which they are doing very well. 
 
Mentionable, various problems are sometimes seen on the Myanmar border, but, 
the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and Coast Guard are solving them 
successfully. 
 
He also said, at different times, fishermen from neighboring countries enter 
our water bodies and take away fish and the Coast Guard is playing a good 
role to this end. 
 
"So, our border is under our complete control. There is no problem for us 
along the border," he said. 
The Home Adviser described corruption as a big problem for Bangladesh and it 
has engulfed all our sectors. 
 
Replying to a question, corruption decreased in the last six months since the 
interim government assumed office, "The amount of corruption has reduced a 
lot in the last six months. However, it has not yet reached a tolerable 
level. If corruption can be reduced, then all sectors will improve." 
 
Senior Home Secretary Nasimul Ghani was present as special guest at the 
function with Director General (DG) of BCG Rear Admiral Md Ziaul Hoque in 
the chair.
