DHAKA, Feb 20, 2025 (BSS) – Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed today said that smooth supply chain of commodities would be ensured during the upcoming holy Month of Ramadan so that the consumers need not to suffer.

“Besides, there will be also extra sale centres of commodities to ensure that the commoners need not to suffer in availing such essential items,” he said.

The Finance Adviser said this while replying to queries of reporters after chairing two separate meetings on the Advisers Council Committees on Economic Affairs and   Government Purchase held at the Cabinet Division Conference Room at Bangladesh Secretariat today.

Asked about the current food situation, Dr Salehuddin said the food availability and price situation is now not bad.

“There are many food items in the basket of people and if you consider on the whole, the situation is more or less tolerable…the statistics also showed it. We won’t be pessimistic and we we’ll continue to monitor the situation,” he added.

During the just concluded DC Conference, the Finance Adviser said the Chief Adviser as well as he himself  directed the DCs to constantly monitor the situation of commodities in the market.

“We had directed them so that there is no manipulation by the wholesalers and retailers,” he said adding that it is often seen that despite having enough supply of commodities, those sometimes don’t reach to common people smoothly due to the illegal hoarding by the vested quarter. “We won’t tolerate such things,”
