DHAKA, Feb 27, 2025 (BSS) - Press accreditation cards will be issued to journalists soon as per the new Press Accreditation Policy, 2025, Chief Adviser's Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumder said today.

"Under the new Press Accreditation Policy, applications will be asked from journalists and after scrutinising these applications within a certain period, new cards will be issued," he told a press briefing at Foreign Service Academy here.

Azad said until the press accreditation cards are issued, the old press cards will remain valid.

He said after announcement of the new policy, there is an obligation for the authorities concerned to issue digital press accreditation cards so that none can manipulate those.

Replying to a question, the deputy press secretary said the validity of the press cards will be three years and any aggrieved journalist will be able to appeal for his or her accreditation card.

Chief Adviser's Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam and Senior Assistant Press Secretary Foyez Ahammad were present at the press briefing.

The Press Accreditation Policy, 2025 was announced for issuing accreditation cards to Bangladeshi journalists working for both national and international media outlets within Bangladesh.

As per the new policy, a news organisation will be allowed to get accreditation cards for up to 30 percent of its journalists, with the maximum limit of 15 per media outlet.

Each media organisation is required to submit a recommendation for issuing or renewing press accreditation cards for its journalists. This recommendation must be signed and stamped by the designated official of the organisation and submitted to the Principal Information Officer.

The application must be made using the official pad of the media organisation, specifying the name and designation of the officials who recommend for the accreditation cards.
