DHAKA, March 22, 2025 (BSS) - Akhtar Hossain, Member Secretary of National Citizen Party (NCP) today called upon all anti-fascist political forces to impose a ban on Awami League politics.
Addressing a protest rally in front of the National Museum in the capital's Shahbagh, he also demanded to the authorities concerned to take steps for cancellation of registration of AL as a political party.
The NCP leader said people defeated Awami League at a cost of thousands of lives and blood on the roads. So, they will never allow the rehabilitation of Awami League in this country. Every time whenever Awami League comes to power, people have to live under uncertainty, he added.
He said Awami League established fascism in Bangladesh in the name of election in 2014, 2018 and 2024 by destroying democracy.
He said people fought 1971’s liberation war for ensuring equality, human dignity and social justice, and then the Awami League came to power and established BAKSAL instead of democracy.
“People of Bangladesh sacrificed their lives on the streets and made a decision about the Awami League and we swear by the blood of our martyred brothers, we will not allow Awami League to do politics in Bangladesh in its own name when we have a single drop of blood in our bodies. The politics of fascism and Mujibism ideology will not be allowed to be rehabilitated in Bangladesh,” he added.
He said the Awami League has so far committed genocides in Bangladesh including the Peelkhana carnage, the 2013 massacre, the Shapla massacre, the anti-Modi movement massacre and the latest 2024 massacre but they have not yet expressed regret for those crimes.
“If any force or individual in Bangladesh tries to stand up for this Awami League, the student-people will resist them,” he added.
Calling for a ban on Awami League politics as a party, he outlined that not only AL’s leaders and activists, but also AL as a party; must be judged and produced before the law. “There will be no politics in the name, ideology and symbol of the Awami League in Bangladesh in the coming days”.
NCP Chief Organizer (South) Hasnat Abdullah, senior joint convener Ariful Islam Adib were also present in the rally, among others.
