DHAKA, March 25, 2025 (BSS) – Chief Adviser Professor Dr.
Muhammad Yunus today said they have been putting importance on
timely completion of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant considering the
growing demand of electricity.

“We have emphasized on the timely completion of the Rooppur Nuclear
Power Plant in view of the country's growing demand for electricity,” he
said in a televised national address ahead of the Great Independence
Day and Eid-ul-Fitr.

The Chief Adviser said that the Director General of State Atomic Energy
Corporation (Rosatom) has told him that the power plant will be put into
trial operation soon.

Yunus said Nepal and Bhutan are very interested in giving Bangladesh
hydropower, and Bangladesh is also interested in receiving it.

“There is no alternative (of electricity) to developing Bangladesh's
industrial zone. If we can bring hydropower from Nepal, our dependence
on fossil fuels will decrease,” he said.

Currently, he said that the world is aware of protecting the environment
and is giving this the highest priority.

“If we find an environmentally friendly alternative to reduce dependence
on fossil fuels, we can attract more attention from foreign investors,” he
said.

He said that we are a very fortunate nation, because of our location on
the world map.

“If these four countries of South Asia -- Bangladesh, India, Nepal and
Bhutan -- can build a joint economy together, all four countries will
benefit,” he said.

Stating that Bangladesh has a vast ocean, he said it has brought us
great economic opportunities due to its geographical location.

“The long coastline from Kumira to Teknaf (we have). If many modern
technology-rich international-standard seaports, industrial plants, and
export processing zones can be established along this long coastline
without interruption then future of the entire economic region can change
rapidly,” he opined.

He continued: “Our products, the products of the world. These products
will go to Nepal, Bhutan, the Seven Sisters of India. The products of our
neighbors will come here to us, they will reach the whole world, in this
way it will stand as a profitable economic zone. And Bangladesh will play
an important role in this region.”
