DHAKA, Aug 1, 2026 (BSS) – Prime Minister’s Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Rumon today said the anti-fascist July movement was the result of the collective contributions of all pro-democracy people in the country, not the achievement of any individual or a single political party.  

“The anti-fascist July movement was not the achievement of any individual or a single party; rather, it was the result of the collective contributions of all pro-democracy people in the country,” he said.

Rumon was addressing a discussion and photo exhibition titled ‘Bangladesh in the Face of Bullets, The End of Fascism’, organised by Amra BNP Poribar and the Bangladesh Photo Journalists Association (BPJA) at the Jatiya Press Club in the capital.

Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapon attended the programme as the chief guest.

The Prime Minister's Additional Press Secretary urged all not to undermine the contributions of others by claiming sole credit for the movement.

He said former BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia had been imprisoned and she endured various forms of persecution during the movement to restore democracy.

He said BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman had also been subjected to inhuman torture and had lived in exile for more than one and a half decades. “Yet neither of them ever sought credit by highlighting their personal sacrifices,” he said.

Rumon added, “There is no glory in self-promotion. BNP has never claimed that it alone achieved everything. 

Those who are trying to claim sole credit today will one day be rejected by the people, and history will not remember them.”

Praising the role of journalists during the July Mass uprising, Rumon said many journalists had risked their lives to assist BNP leaders and activists.

“Many journalists helped me and numerous BNP leaders reach safe places by giving us rides on their motorcycles and in their vehicles,” he said, adding, “We are grateful for their support. The nation will remember the contribution of journalists during the country's difficult times.”
