UNESCO Club hails UNESCO's decision to introduce award in Bangabandhu's name
DHAKA, July 10, 2021 (BSS) - The UNESCO Club Association in Bangladesh today thanked and expressed gratitude to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) for the UN body's decision to introduce an international award in the name of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
The award named 'UNESCO-Bangladesh Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman International Prize' in the field of 'Creative Economy' will be given once in every two years to encourage young people to take initiative in the creative economy, the association said a press release today.
In a statement, association's President Masuda M Rashid Chowdhury, MP, and Secretary General Mahbub Uddin Chowdhury said Bangladesh welcomes such initiative of UNESCO as it shows deep respect and honor to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
"There is no doubt that the UNESCO award will be the most effective medium at this moment to internationalize and spread Bangabandhu's life and philosophy on the occasion of the birth centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the father of the nation and the architect of Bangladesh," they said.
The statement said the announcement of declaring such an award by the UNESCO is not only an achievement of Bangladesh also enhanced nation's deep respect and love to the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
It said the nation is proud for the award and it will play a special role in increasing Bangladesh's reputation and image in the world.
The first award ceremony will be held on the occasion of UNESCO’s 41st session of the UNESCO General Conference in November,2021, the release said.
UNESCO usually awards in various categories in the name of various eminent persons and organizations at the international level.
This is the very first time it has decided to give an award in the name of the Father of the Nation of Bangladesh.
