DHAKA, Mar 27, 2022 (BSS) – Members of Detective Branch (DB) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Polices have arrested a man who was allegedly involved in murdering of Zahidul Islam alias Tipu, former general secretary of Mothijheel thana Awami League, and college student Samia Afran Jamal Prity in the city in last week.

Masum Mohammad alias Akash was arrested from Bogura as he was attempted to flee the country, said additional commissioner (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police AKM Hafiz Akhter at a press conference here this afternoon.  

“During primary interrogation, Masum admitted  that he killed Zahidul.  Police have also examined the close circuit (CC) camera footage and became clear that Masum has participated in the killing mission,” said AKM Hafiz Akhter.

Before five days of the killing, Masum was hired for the killing. A motorcycle and the arms were provided to Masum and his associates by an unidentified person at Inland depot area of Kamalapur  before three days of the killing incident, said the DB official.

Police have identified other associates of Masum but details were yet to be disclosed for the sake of more investigation, he said.

Zahidul was shot dead on busy road at Amtala Mosque area in Shahjahanpur at 10 pm on March 24 and college student Samia Afran Prity who was travelling on a rickshaw during this time was also received bullets and died.

Earlier in the morning, DMP spokesman Faruk Hossain said police have arrested a suspect in connection with the killing of Tipu but he did not disclose the identity of the suspect.

According to the police, important information was acquired by interrogating several suspects involved in the murder incident.
