CHATTOGRAM, June 18, 2022 (BSS) - Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud today said the leaders and activists of Awami League stand beside the people in flood affected areas including Sylhet along with the administration.
"No other political party except Awami League stay beside the flood affected people. Some are delivering speech at talk-shows in Dhaka while others are spreading malice against the government in front of Naya Paltan or Jatiya Press Club. But, none come forward to help the flood victims," he said.
The minister added that the administration and the leaders and activists of AL extended hands to the flood victims as per the directives of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Hasan stated these while exchanging views with the schools and college teachers of Ranguniya upazila at Advocate Nurussafa Talukder auditorium.
He said none thought that Bangabandhu's daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the AL government could construct the Padma Bridge with its own fund. "But, later we have started the construction of the bridge with own fund. The World Bank went to a Canadian court, but they have lost there. It was proved in the Canadian court that their (WB) allegations were false, fabricated and motivated. And the court has given the verdict that there was no corruption and no attempts of corruption were made over the Padma Bridge," he added.
After that, he said, the WB has proposed that they want to finance in the bridge construction. But the Premier refused their proposal and told that there is no need of the World Bank’s fund, he added.
He said earlier a highly circulated newspaper of the country reported that the Padma Bridge would not be built while some intellectuals claimed that the bridge could not be constructed under this government.
"Dr Yunus also echoed the same and with due respect to him I would like to say that, in reality, he had hands with the plot so that the World Bank stayed away from funding for the bridge. Similarly, the CPD, TIB and others said that the bridge would not be built, but the Premier showed that the Padma Bridge can be constructed with own fund," said Hasan, also AL joint general secretary.
He said the government wants to build a developed nation with the combination of merit, patriotism, values and affection.
He urged the teachers to teach the students about the values, patriotism, affection and the responsibility to the elders.
He said, "The door of mine has opened in the last thirteen and a half years for the dwellers of Ranguniya. I never take into consideration who voted me or who didn't. I never asked anyone whether he or she does the politics of Awami League or not. Even, I worked for those who carried out campaign against me. I've always tried to keep the word of people."
Chattogram University of Engineering and Technology Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Muhammad Rafiqul Alam, upazila chairman Swajan Kumar Talukder, Chattogram University Teachers Association former president Professor Dr Sekandar Chowdhury, and Ranguniya Government College acting principal AKM Suza Uddin, among others, spoke.
Dr Muhammad Abdul Mabud conducted it.
