AUSTAGRAM, Kishoreganj, Aug 23, 2022 (BSS) - President M Abdul Hamid today urged everyone, including political leaders, district administration and civil society to remain alert in using plastic waste and polythene to protect the balance of the environment.
"In order to protect the environment, each of the individuals must take proper action . . . so that the use of plastic waste and polythene does not spoil the tourism environment of Haor," he said.
The head of the state now on a four-day visit to see some ongoing development projects of Mithamain, Austagram and Itna upazilas of his home district, was exchanging views with local dignitaries at Austagram auditorium this evening.
The President told local elected representatives and politicians that they all must be careful against spreading different misleading information centering the development of haor regions.
He asked everyone to work together to find out how to improve the economy and quality of life by protecting the environment.
The President advised the politicians to ask the people and the voters if there are any complaints against them.
Abdul Hamid said through this way a good relations and accountability will be developed between the people and the politicians and "the development of the country will be accelerated in the long run."
Noting that the concept of sustainable development has been strengthened in the world at present, Hamid said special care should be taken to ensure that development does not destroy the environment.
Earlier, the President on his way to Austagram visited 'Vatsala Bridge' under Austagram Upazila.
After that, President Hamid inaugurated 'Tourism Austagram' at 'I Love Austagram' point on Mithamain-Austagram highway, 16 km distance from Mithamain upazila town.
Later, he inspected the newly constructed 'President Abdul Hamid Bridge' at Austagram.
Members of Parliament - Md Afzal Hussain and Rezwan Ahmmad Taufiq, local public representatives, secretaries concerned to the Bangabhaban, and high civil & military officials, among others, accompanied the President.
The President is scheduled to return to Dhaka on August 25.
