DHAKA, Oct 23, 2022 (BSS) - A court here today framed charges in a case filed against Miah Nuruddin Ahmed Opu, private secretary of BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman, for not submitting wealth statement sought by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
Judge Mohammad Nazrul Islam of Dhaka Special Judge Court-10 passed the order, scrapping a plea for acquittal filed by the accused. The court also set November 27 for recording deposition of the witnesses.
Earlier in the day, police produced Opu before the court and his counsel Nur Alam argued for acquitting his client of the case. ACC counsel Fatema Kahnom Nila argued framing the charges.
The anti-graft body on January 1, 2020, asked Opu to submit statement on his wealth. The ACC on January 28, 2021, filed the case against him for not submitting the statement in spite of allowing him time repeatedly.
The ACC on December 30, 2021, filed charge-sheet in the case.
