DHAKA, Dec 17, 2022 (BSS) - The entire Suhrawardy Udyan and its adjoining areas turned red and green as thousands of people attended the victory procession "Bijoy Shovajatra," organised by Bangladesh Awami League, marking the 52nd Victory Day.
Thousands of activists of different units of Awami league and its associate bodies joined the procession that started from the premises of Suhrawardy Udyan, the historic place where the occupation Pakistani military surrendered to the freedom fighters 52 years back, around 3.43pm.
The procession marched through Shahbagh intersection, Elephant Road, Science Lab intersection and Mirpur Road before ending at Bangabandhu Bhaban at Dhanmondi-32.
With the rhythm of patriotic songs, and music they joined the event. Some came to the procession with freedom fighters' looks.
The procession stepped forward with the "Joi Bangla, Joi Bangabandhu" slogan.
Before the procession, a brief rally was arranged on a makeshift stage on trucks in front of Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) adjacent to Suhrawardy Udyan.
Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader inaugurated the procession.
Presidium Members Begum Matia Chowdhury, Dr Muhammad Abdur Razzaque, Shajahan Khan, Jahangir Kabir Nanak, Abdur Rahman, Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya, Bir Bikram and Qamrul Islam, Joint General Secretaries- Mahbubul Alam Hanif, Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni, Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud and AFM Bahauddin Nasim addressed the rally, among others.
Party's Dhaka City North unit President Sheikh Bazlur Rahman chaired it.
Dhaka city north and south units of AL jointly organised the programme.
Streets from Shahbagh intersection to Jatiya Press Club turned into human sea before since 2pm as leaders and workers of different units and associate bodies started gathering at the venue coming from different parts of the capital.
Motifs of Padma Bridge, elephant, horse-drawn vehicle, boats, rifles, canons, tanks and others were displayed in the procession which added a different dimension to it.
Bangabandhu's historic March 7 speech and patriotic songs were played from different vehicles joined the procession.
Clad in red-green t-shirt, cap, traditional panjabee and sharee, leaders and workers of different AL units and associate bodies joined the procession with national and AL flags, placards and posters containing pictures of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Sajeeb Wazed Joy.
Awami Jubo League, Bangladesh Chhatra League, Krishak League, Tanti League, Jubo Mohila League, Jatiya Sramik League and Mohila Awami League and other organisations joined the procession.
