Asaduzzaman stresses combating drug-addiction, terrorism for building smart Bangladesh

RAJSHAHI, Dec 22, 2022 (BSS) - Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan has called for combating drug-addiction, terrorism and militancy for building smart Bangladesh.
 
"We believe we will attain the goal of building smart Bangladesh as the present generation is very much talented," he said while addressing a mass-gathering here on Wednesday afternoon as the chief guest.

The minister said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is working relentlessly for building smart Bangladesh by 2041 as she has already built Digital Bangladesh.
 
District police organized the rally against drug-addiction, terrorism and militancy at Baneshwar Government Degree College playground under Puthiya Upazila.

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md Shahriar Alam, Prof Monsur Rahman, MP, Ayen Uddin, MP, Adiba Anjum Mita, MP, and Inspector General of Police Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun addressed the meeting with Deputy Inspector General of Police Abdul Baten in the chair.

Principal of Bangladesh Police Academy Abu Hassan Muhammad Tarique, Commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Abu Kalam Siddique, Deputy Commissioner of Rajshahi Abdul Jalil and its Superintendent of Police Masud Hossain also spoke on the occasion.

Asaduzzaman said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has declared zero tolerance against drug-addiction, terrorism and militancy.

"We have combated terrorism and militancy to a greater extent. Now we have to eradicate drug addiction along with its illicit trafficking and trading," he added.

The minister said forging social resistance against abuse of drugs can be the best way of protecting the young generation from drug-addiction.
 
Simultaneously, concerted efforts of all the government and non-government entities concerned and the community has become crucial to ensure a drug abuse free society to attain the cherished goal, he said.
 
In his remarks, Shahriar Alam said the present government has a declaration of zero tolerance against drug-addiction and urged all quarters to come forward to protect the young generation from the grip of the social crime.

"We have to build a healthy society to achieve sustainable development goals," he said, adding the initiative against the drug abuse should be turned into a social movement.

He said full-length support of the community and its leaders can be the effective means of freeing the society from abuse of drugs.

Creation of mass-awareness about the curse of drug-abuse coupled with its fatal consequences is of essence to mitigate the social disease, he added.
