DHAKA, Dec 22, 2022 (BSS) -The 11th death anniversary of one of the organisers of Liberation War, a close associate of Bangabandhu and veteran Awami League leader Abdur Razzak will be observed tomorrow with due respect.

On the occasion of Abdur Razzak's 11th death anniversary, Awami League and its associate as well as like-minded organisations will pay homage to Razzak by placing wreaths at his grave at Banani graveyard in the city.

Abdur Razzak Foundation, Shariatpur Foundation and Abdur Razzak Srity Sangsad will place wreaths at Banani graveyard in the city at 8 am.

Besides, milad-mahfil will be organized by Abdur Razzak Srity Sangsad and Abdur Razzak Foundation at Banani graveyard.

Shariatpur-3 Constituency lawmaker Nahim Razzak, son of Abdur Razzak, will be present there.

Abdur Razzak born in a middle class business family of South Damudya village under Damudya upazila of Shariatpur district on August 1, 1942, Razzaq made his debut in politics as a student activist in late 1950s and was elected the secretary of Fazlul Haq Hall Students Union of Dhaka University in 1963 as a candidate of the then Chhatra League.

His tremendous organising capacity made him a popular and crucial student leader and brought him to close association of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in those crucial days when the Bengali nationalist movement witnessed its peak ahead of the Liberation War.

He served as the general secretary of Chhatra League for two terms and steered the Awami Volunteer Core from 1969-1972.

He was elected as a member of the then Provincial Assembly in 1970.

Razzaq was the sector commander of Meghalaya, one of four sector commanders of Mujib Bahini, during the Liberation War and simultaneously he was also an organiser and trainer of Mujib Bahini.

After the independence, he was elected member of the parliament in 1973, 1991, 1996, 2001 and 2008. He was the organising secretary of Bangladesh Awami League during 1972-1975 and general secretary of Awami League from 1978 to 1981.

Razzaq also served as a presidium member of Awami League from 1991 to 2008.

He became the water resources minister during the 1996-2001 tenure of the Awami League government when Dhaka signed the landmark Ganges Water Sharing Treaty with India.

On December 23 in 2011, Abdur Razzak passed away at a London hospital.
