NEW DELHI, Jan 10, 2023 (BSS) - Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi today paid homage to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman as the mission observed his historic Homecoming Day in a befitting manner.
On this day in 1972, Bangabandhu, the undisputed leader of the nation and supreme commander of the Liberation War, returned to the sacred soil of independent Bangladesh via London and New Delhi after 290 days of confinement in Pakistan jail.
In observance of the day, a discussion meeting was organized at Conference Hall of the Embassy. Counsellor (Political) Md. Shafiul Alam conducted the meeting, according to a mission press release.
Earlier, messages from President Md. Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina were read out by Minister (Press) Shaban Mahmood and Assistance Defence Adviser (Air) Md. Khairul Mamun respectively.
Bangladesh High Commissioner to India Mustafizur Rahman recalled India’s contribution during the Bangladesh’s War of Liberation in 1971 in which three million people laid down their lives to achieve independence.
The High Commissioner said Bangabandhu, in his historic address to a cheering crowd during a stopover in New Delhi on way to Dhaka, laid the foundation of the “unique relation” Bangladesh and India enjoy today. He also said that Bangabandhu was the unparallel leader in the history of Bangladesh.
One-minute silence was observed as a mark of respect to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the freedom fighters, who embraced martyrdom during Bangladesh War of Liberation.
A special munazat was also offered seeking divine blessings for the departed soul of Bangabandhu, his family and the liberation war martyrs and continued peace, progress and prosperity of the nation. Officials and employees of the mission joined the programme.
Besides, similar programmes were observed in Bangladesh deputy and assistant high commissions in Kolkata, Mumbai, Agartala and Guwahati marking the Bangabandhu’s historic home coming day.
