DHAKA, Feb 1, 2023 (BSS) - Lawmakers today said the poverty stricken Bangladesh has now becomes an emerging tiger in the South Asian nations due to dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

The poverty stricken Bangladesh has now becomes economically rich among the South Asian nations, they said while taking part in the discussion on thanksgiving motion of the President's speech at the Jatiya Sangsad here with Deputy Speaker Shamsul Haque Tuku in the chair.

Taking part in the discussion, the lawmakers highlighted different development activities in various sectors including communication, socio-economic, education, youth and sports, information and communication technology (ICT) under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

The President in his 168-page speech on January 5 last, on the first day of the maiden session in 2023 of the 11th parliament, focused on the country's massive successes in different sectors.

"Once a poverty stricken Bangladesh has now becomes an emerging tiger in the South Asian region due to capable leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina", said Bangladesh Tarikat Federation lawmaker Syed Nazibul Bashar Maizvandary of Chattogram-2.

Bangladesh once was a bottomless basket and contains huge poverty, but now has becomes 35th economic power in the world due to the prudent leadership of Sheikh Hasina, said another ruling party lawmaker Mohibur Rahman Manik of Sunamganj-5.

On the other hand, BNP is now carrying out anti-state propaganda which is damaging country's reputation abroad, he told the parliament.

Sharply criticizing the role of BNP-Jammat government, Meher Afroze of Gazipur-5 said the BNP-Jammat did not play any significant role during the pandemic. She urged the people to keep the continuation of the regime for further development of the country.

Ruling out the caretaker government provision demand by BNP-Jammat, Local Government, Rural Development (LGRD) Minister Tajul Islam of Cumilla-9 said, "The people of the country do not want caretaker government and that's why the apex court has declared the provision as unconstitutional".

Participating in the discussion, Jatiya Party lawmaker Pir Fazlur Rahman of Sunamganj-4, said the government should have to resist the widespread corruption in order to make the ongoing development meaningful and also to materialize the sacrifice of scores of martyred freedom fighters.

Lawmakers including Md. Shibli-Sadeeq of Dinajpur-6, Manoranjan Shil Gopal of Dinajpur-1, Fahmi Gulandaz Babel of Mymensingh-10, Kujendra Lal Tripura of Khagrachhari, Abul Hashem Khan of Cumilla-5 and Basanti Chakma of Women seat-9,also participated in the discussion.
     
Earlier, the chief whip Nur-E Alam Chowdhury came up with a proposal for holding discussion on thanksgiving motion of the President's speech in the House and then it was seconded by treasury bench lawmaker Md. Shahiduzzaman Sarker.

The lawmakers also thanked the President for giving a timely speech highlighting the success stories of the government and guiding the nation towards peace, progress and prosperity.

Earlier, they paid a rich tribute to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman for his contribution to establishing an independent Bangladesh.
