14 KG gold seized from US Bangla’s ram bus at HSIA 

DHAKA, Feb 02, 2023 (BSS)-The Dhaka Customs House authorities today arrested the driver of a ram bus belonged to private airline US Bangla at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport and seized 14 kg gold bars worth about Tk 13.50 crore.

According to the customs authorities, the arrested driver was identified as Md Harun-or-Rashid, a US Bangla (MT) ram bus driver. 

Deputy Commissioner (DC) of the Dhaka Customs House Preventive Team Syed Mokaddes Hossain confirmed the news to BSS. 

He said that each gold bar, seized from the US Bangla bus weighs 116 grams. A total of 120 pieces of gold bars were recovered from the bus and the market price of the gold bars about Tk 13.50 crore.

On tiff off, Dhaka Customs Commissioner, two Additional Commissioners and Deputy Commissioner Syed Mokaddes Hossain conducted the operation and seized the gold bars from a US Bangla airbus at about 7:54 am. The gold was brought through a US Bangla Airlines (BS-342) flight from Dubai. 

Syed Mokaddes Hossain said that the gold was seized in presence of all passengers including the driver at the customs office of the airport. 

He also said that the seized gold bars were deposited to the customs warehouse of the airport under DCH-DC-detention demo. 

Besides, the seized (Dhaka Metro-Sa-12-0113) Airbus owned by US Bangla Airlines was handed over to the Civil Aviation Authority. Apart from this, other confiscated materials were deposited at the airport police station.

Harun-or-Rashid was handed over to the airport police station.

Preparations were underway to file a case against US Bangla in this connection, the deputy commissioner said.
