DHAKA, Aug 12, 2021 (BSS) - Bangladesh Police Women's Welfare Society (Punak) has been implementing a social forestry campaign to make Bangladesh green with saplings.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr Benazir Ahmed yesterday formally inaugurated the joint social forestry campaign initiated by the Punak in collaboration with the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).
Punak president Jissan Mirza joined the programme as the chief guest and planted different types of fruit trees at Hatirjheel area.
In response to the Prime Minister’s call to plant one crore trees across the country in the Mujib Borsho, she said, Bangladesh Police and Punak have jointly started the greening campaign.
Zeeshan Mirza said there are many species of trees at Hatirjheel, adding, “We have planted a variety of fruit trees here, so that animals, birds and pedestrians can enjoy the fruits.”
Expressing sincere gratitude to the Prime Minister for building the beautiful Hatirjheel, she said the Hatirjheel project has been developed as a landmark for Dhaka city with the tireless cooperation and right direction of the Prime Minister.
The Punak president appealed to tourists who visit the Hatirjheel to take care of the trees.
“Punak is trying to stand by everyone for the welfare of the country and society with limited capacity,” she added.
Additional Commissioner of DMP Mir Rezaul Alam and Hatirjheel Project Director Lt Colonel Kazi Shakil Hossain also spoke. Punak leaders were present on the occasion.
