RAJSHAHI, Feb 11, 2023 (BSS) - In addition to many others, Rajshahi city dwellers got another illuminated street as the city corporation has brought it under modern street lighting on Friday evening.
 
City Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton accompanied by his office colleagues and others concerned switched on the street lighting from the Terakhadia crossing to City Hat crossing.
 
Rajshahi City Corporation has installed 218 decorated and eye-catching LED lights on 109 poles on the island of the 3.53-kilometer road.
 
Mayor Liton said the energy saving lights at Drishtinandan will be turned on and off automatically through mobile App.

The city corporation has been elevating the Bilsimla Railway crossing to City Hat street road to four-lane aimed at making the movement of both vehicles and people quick and smooth.
 
RCC is turning the road to 80-feet wide along with a four-foot-wide road divider with an outlay of around Taka 44.92 crore as part of RCC's Taka 2,993-crore project titled 'Integrated Urban Infrastructure Development in Rajshahi City'.
 
On both sides of the 3.532-kilometer road, a 44-feet road, 12-feet wide drain and footpath and 20-feet road for the slow-moving vehicles are also being constructed.
 
Earlier, the city corporation installed 1,654 decorated and eye-catching lights on 695 poles in five separate roads and streets with a length of around 21 kilometers. Apart from this, 15 important road crossings were also brought under the lighting facilities.
 
Mayor Liton said they have installed and launched the modern lighting system on the 4.2-kilomter Bilsimla-Kasiadanga road to ensure security of people and vehicles during the night time movement in the city.
 
A total of 174 altitude decorative poles were installed with 384 power-saving LED bulbs in the shape of flying butterflies at a cost of around Taka 5.22 crore.
 
To make Rajshahi city more bright and attractive at night, the high altitude flood lights were installed in the City Street.
 
Liton said the road has recently been elevated to a four-lane from 30 feet to 80 feet wide with 10 feet wide footpaths and concrete drains on both sides of the road at a cost of around Taka 52.75 crore.
 
There is also an eight-foot bicycle lane on the southern side of the road.
 
A decorative island has been constructed while trees were already planted on the island to bring a greenery look there, he said.
