AL is not launching any counter programmes against BNP: Nanak

DHAKA, Feb 11, 2023 (BSS) - Bangladesh Awami League was not launching any counter programmes against BNP, rather it has been carrying out its responsibility to ensure the safety and security of the people and their property, said party's presidium member Jahangir Kabir Nanak.

"We are not giving any counter programmes against BNP, Awami League is discharging its sacred duty to ensure safety and security of the people and their property from the arson violence of BNP," he said while speaking at the triennial conference of AL's Sunamganj district unit at Jubilee School playground.

AL general secretary and road transport and bridges minister Obaidul Quader attended the conference as the chief guest.

BNP was holding meetings at divisional and district level even it is now launching similar programmes at union level, he said, adding that what does it means, BNP killed innocent people, including AL leaders-workers in the name of movement.

Nanak said BNP founder Ziaur Rahman tried to destroy Awami League after capturing power. He (Ziaur Rahman) rehabilitated the war criminals who were defeated in Liberation Way in power and took steps so that Bangabandhu's daughters Sheikh Hasina and Sheikh Rehana could not return to the country, he said.

He said BNP was now talking about democracy although it had destroyed democracy. Poisonous snakes can be taken into trust but not BNP because it destroyed the spirit of Liberation War and killed freedom fighters to consolidate its power, he added.

District AL president Matiur Rahman presided over the conference while general secretary Barrister M Enamul Kabir Imon conducted it.
