DHAKA, Mar 01, 2023 (BSS) - The Bangladesh Navy today handed over to the local administration 14 barrack houses built for the homeless and rootless people in Maheshkhali upazila of Cox's Bazar district.
The Navy has built these houses at the directives and under the supervision of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the Armed Forces Department, according to a release issued by the ISPR today.
It said there were five units in each barrack. Each of the units can accommodate one family. The barracks have kitchen and bathroom facilities. A total of 70 homeless families will get quality accommodation there.
Officials of Bangladesh Navy, representatives of the deputy commissioner (DC) and local dignitaries were present at the programme.
Bangladesh Navy has been building barrack houses under the Ashrayan-2 project since November 29, 2021.
The Navy is constructing 60 projects at Hatia upazila of Noakhali district under the Commander of the Bangladesh Navy in Chattogram, 22 at Monpura and Lalmohon upazila in Bhola district and 208 at Swandip upazila in Chattogram district.
The Ashrayan project will ensure rehabilitation of 1,450 more homeless families after completion of the construction work.
Besides, the under the Ashrayan project-2, construction work of barracks for the homeless is going on in Bagerhat, Bhola, Noakhali, Pirojpur, Barguna, Barishal and Jhalokathi districts.
