TANGAIL, March 1, 2023 (BSS) - At least three women pilgrims were killed and 20 others injured in a road accident on Dhaka-Tangail-Bangabandhu Bridge highway at Analiabari under Kalihati upazila here today. 

The deceased were Sahera Khatun (60), wife of late Sultan of Gandhail village and Nurjahan (50), daughter of late Mahtab Ali of Pechamanik village under sadar upazila in Jamalpur district, and Firoza Begum (60), wife of late Hatem Ali of Gourang village under Dhanbari upazila in the district.

Officer-in-charge of Bangabandhu east police station Md Safiqul Islam said about 30 to 35 men and women were going to an annual Urs Mahfil at Enayetpur in Sirajganj district by a pickup from Jamalpur district.

On the way, the pickup lost control and fell into a ditch on the side of the highway at Analiabari under Kalihati upazila around 1:45pm, he added.

Two women died on the spot and another woman died on her way to Tangail General Hospital, the police official said, adding that the bodies have been kept at the police station.

The injured were admitted to the Tangail General Hospital here, he said. 

A case was filed in this connection.
