DHAKA, March 2, 2023 (BSS) - A Dhaka court today convicted and sentenced a person to life-term imprisonment for smuggling of 28 gold bars. 

Judge Fatema Ferdous of Dhaka 5th Additional Sessions Judge Court pronounced the judgement in absence of the convict Munkir Miah, Public prosecutor AFM Rezaur Rahman Rumel confirmed the matter to BSS.
Customs authorities detained Munkir, a gold trader hailed from Gojaria of Munshiganj, with 28 gold bars at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on December 6, 2018. 

A case was filed with Airport Police Station. Police on December 31, 2019, filed a charge sheet in connection with the case.

The court framed charges against the sole accused Munkir on March 22, 2021.
