RAJSHAHI, March 2, 2023 (BSS) - Around 600 students of three primary schools in the city were given pasteurized chocolate milk and boiled eggs for consumption with the main thrust of inspiring them to consume those regularly.
The Department of Livestock Services (DLS) distributed the milk and eggs among the students at Silver Jubilee Government Primary School, Upashahar Model Government Primary School and Annada Government Primary School marking the Livestock Service Week-2023 today (Thursday).
"Smart Livestock Smart Bangladesh" is the main theme of the service week that was observed throughout the district like other parts of the country from February 25 to March 1.
On the occasion of milk and egg distribution, the district office of the DLS held a discussion at Silver Jubilee Government Primary School under Boalia Thana in the city.
District Livestock Officer Dr Zulfiker Akhter Hossain, Deputy Director of Artificial Insemination Centre Dr Anwarul Haque, Additional District Livestock Officer Dr Fazley Rabbi and Monitoring Officer Mahmudul Hassan addressed the discussion disseminating their expertise.
They unequivocally called for habituating the school students in in-taking milk and eggs for their physical and mental development.
Dr Zulfikar Hossain highlighted the enormous aspects of milk and eggs to the nation-building process and viewed that milk and egg consumption is very important for brain development of the children.
He defined that protein is the vital nutrition for normal growth and development of the brain and other essential nutrients of the human body while livestock is the pivotal source of nutrition.
He also illustrated the importance and significance of the week besides giving an overview of milk and egg consumption.
The DLS also arranged livestock exhibitions in nine upazilas of the district simultaneously to mark the week calling for ensuring supply of safe animal proteins as well as milk, meat and egg to all for building smart Bangladesh.
