India delighted with Bangladesh’s transition as a developing country: Om Birla

DHAKA, Mar 12, 2023 (BSS)- Appreciating the unprecedented progress of Bangladesh under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Speaker of Indian Lok Sabha Om Birla said that the Government of India is very happy with the transition of Bangladesh as a developing country.

He made the remarks yesterday at a meeting with Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury at the Convention Cluster room of Bahrain Conference & Exhibition Centre in Bahrain’s capital Manama, a release said here today.

While exchanging views with the JS Speaker, Om Birla expressed hope that India's cooperation with Bangladesh in matters of mutual interest will continue in future.

The JS Speaker said that, “Bangladesh is moving forward rapidly as a result of the determination and dedication of the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina…The poverty rate in the country has come down from 40 percent to 21 percent due to the unprecedented developments.”

Referring the friendship of Bangladesh and India as pure and genuine, the Speaker said, “Together, India-Bangladesh can achieve the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030 through mutual cooperation and strengthening relations at the regional and global levels,” the release added.

“Bangladesh's friendly relation with India is getting stronger. Cooperation between the two countries is strengthening through various cooperative projects in the fields like electricity, energy, communication system, infrastructure management etc,” she added.

Om Birla said that the Indian Lok Sabha will organize the P-20 conference to strengthen parliamentary relations as part of the G-20 activities, to which the Speaker of the Bangladesh National Parliament has already been invited.

Dr Shirin thanked him for the invitation and said that the relationship and communication between the people's representative parliamentarians should be made closer to ensure public welfare. 

“Using this opportunity of G20 leadership, the Indian Lok Sabha can take strong action in this regard.

 Everyone's participation is essential to solve the post-Covid crisis,” Dr Shirin said.

Members of the parliament Md Shah-e Alam, Razee Mohammad Fakhrul, Umma Kulsum Smriti, Rahgir Al Mahi Ershad , Umma Fatema Najma Begum, Senior Secretary of the JS Secretariat KM Abdus Salam, Joint Secretary MA Kamal Billah and other senior officials were present among others at the meeting.

 Later, Dr Shirin participated in the opening ceremony of 146th IPU Conference at the Grand Hall of ABC of the Exhibition World Bahrain.
