Bangladesh mission in New Delhi celebrates Bangabandhu's birth anniversary

NEW DELHI, March 17, 2023 (BSS) - Bangladesh High Commission to India today celebrated the 103rd birth anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the National Children's Day-2023 in a befitting manner.

On this day in 1920, Bangabandhu, the undisputed leader of the Bengali nation and the architect of independent Bangladesh was born in a respected Muslim family at Tungipara village of the then Gopalganj sub-division, now district.

The day's programme began with hoisting of National flag at the chancery premises and placing floral wreaths at the portrait of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in the morning by Bangladesh High Commissioner to India Md Mustafizur Rahman and officials of the mission.

Later, a discussion was held at the chancery premises on the lives and works of Bangabandhu, who struggled throughout his life for establishing the rights of Bengali people and for the betterment of their livelihood.

Taking part in the discussion, the Bangladesh envoy, recalled with gratitude the undisputed and prudent leadership of Bangabandhu in his long journey to establish an independent and sovereign Bangladesh.

He said Bangabandhu has emerged as a great leader due to his love and affection to the people, far-sighted leadership quality and his sacrifice to ensure well-being of the countrymen.

Mustafizur Rahman urged all to teach their children from the life and struggle of Bangabandhu to help a better new generation.

Among others, Aroma Dutta, MP, Journalist and Columnist Abed Khan, Barrister Tania Amir also spoke on the occasion highlighting the significance of the day.

A documentary on Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was screened.

Earlier, messages from President M. Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Foreign Minister A K Abdul Momen and State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam were read out.

A special "Munajat" (prayers) was offered seeking divine blessings for Bangabandhu and those who were brutally killed on the fateful night on August 15, 1975.

Later, in the afternoon, the mission organised an art competition, public speech competitions and cultural function for the children of the mission officials and employees to mark the day.

Besides, similar programmes were also organised at the Bangladesh deputy missions in Kolkata and Mumbai, according to message received here.
