RANGPUR, March 26, 2023 (BSS) - The Independence and National Day-2023 was
celebrated today at Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) paying rich
tribute to the heroic martyrs of the Great War of Liberation.
Vice-chancellor (VC) Professor Dr. Md. Hasibur Rashid hoisted the national
flag amid rendering of the national anthem with the sunrise on the campus.
Later, he inaugurated the celebration by releasing balloons and pigeons
before leading a colorful procession from the mural of Father of the Nation
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
The procession ended in front of the Independence Memorial.
The VC, Pro-VC, leaders and officials of all residential halls, institutes
and various organisations of the teachers, students, officials and employees
participated in the procession.
Later, the VC, Pro-VC Prof Dr. Sarifa Salowa Dina and Treasurer Prof Dr.
Mojib Uddin Ahamed paid homage to the heroic martyred freedom fighters,
heroic freedom fighters and martyrs of the Great War of Liberation by placing
wreaths at the altar of Independence Memorial.
Deans of all faculties, heads of all departments, officials of residential
halls, institutes, Begum Rokeya University Teachers' Association, Officers'
Association, teachers, officials, employees and students placed wreaths
there.
Earlier, the Vice-chancellor paid tribute to the mural of the great hero of
the freedom struggle and Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur
Rahman on the campus.
Later, a virtual discussion meeting was organized at noon.
Former VC of Islami University, Kusthia Prof Dr. Rashid Askari virtually
participated in the discussion as the keynote speaker.
Prof Askari said international recognition of the barbaric massacre committed
by the Pakistani occupation forces at the black night on March 25, 1971 as
the International Genocide Day is the need of hour.
"It is possible to achieve international recognition of the genocide with the
joint efforts of all," he hoped.
Prof Dr. Rashid said Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman
is the unquestionable leader of Bangladesh.
"For his outstanding contribution to the country's freedom struggle,
Bangabandhu has been recognised as the father of the Bengali nation," he
said.
"Bangabandhu has shown the way of light by leading the nation from the
forefront in the history of the country's politics. Our independent
Bangladesh is the golden success of his long struggling life," he added.
Later, special munajats were offered in a milad mehfil organised after the
Zohr prayers seeking eternal peace of the departed souls of martyrs of the
Great Liberation War.
Presided over by Convener of the celebration committee Prof Kamolesh Chandra
Roy, Associate Prof Md Ashanuzzaman moderated the virtual discussion.
President of Begum Rokeya University Teachers' Association Md. Shariful
Islam, Member-secretary of the celebration committee Md. Belal Uddin, Social
Welfare Secretary of the Officers' Association Md. Firoz Al-Mamun also spoke
on the occasion.
