RANGPUR, April 15, 2023 (BSS) - Secretary to the Ministry of Social Welfare Md. Jahangir Alam today said that the widow allowances will be introduced soon in the Rangpur City Corporation (RpCC) area from the next financial year.
He said this while distributing interest-free small loans among the beneficiaries under the rural mother center and rural social service programs in a function held at District Shilpokola Academy auditorium here as chief guest.
Rangpur district administration and District Social Service Office jointly organized the event with Deputy Commissioner Dr. Chitralekha Nazneen in the chair.
The Social Welfare Secretary said the social service loan is used in a rotating manner among the beneficiaries so that people can become welfare-oriented and self-reliant. This allocation will be increased in future.
“Rangpur is no longer a ‘monga’-prone area. There is no poverty in the country except for some people. The use of Android mobile phone stores in everyone's hands proves the fact,” he said.
He said 23,65000 disabled people are getting allowances across the country now.
“The government through the Ministry of Social Welfare has set up the National Skill Development Authority to rehabilitate the unemployed,” he added.
The chief guest distributed Taka 16,80,000 interest-free small loans to 40 beneficiaries under the rural mother center and rural social service programs.
Besides, he distributed wheelchairs to eight disabled people on the occasion.

Ferdous Ali Chowdhury, Sadar Upazila Chairman Nasima Zaman Bobby, Additional Director of the Department of Social Services Md. Mossarraf Hossain, its Deputy Director for Rangpur Md. Abdul Matin, Sadar Upazila Executive Officer Nur Nahar Begum, Convener of district Awami League AKM Shahadat Hossain Bakul, Convent of Rangpur City Awami league Dr. Md, Delwar Hossain and its Joint Convener Md. Abul Kashem, were present as special guests.
