RANGPUR, April 17, 2023 (BSS) - Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, MP, today said April 17 is very important in our national life and the next generation should know the historical importance of Mujibnagar Day.
"Bangalees belong to a proud nation. They gave their blood for the language and gained freedom through the Great War of Liberation in 1971," she said.
She was addressing a discussion titled 'Historical Mujibnagar Day and Independence of Bangladesh' organized by the upazila administration marking the historical Mujibnagar Day at Pirganj upazila parishad auditorium in the district as the chief guest.
Presided over by Deputy Commissioner Dr. Chitralekha Nazneen, Pirganj Upazila Awami League General Secretary and Mayor of Pirganj municipality ASM Tajimul Islam Shamim moderated the discussion.
Acting President of Pirganj Upazila Awami League, Professor Nurul Amin Raza, its Senior Vice-president Shahidul Islam Pintu and Superintendent of Police Md. Ferdous Ali Chowdhury addressed the occasion.
Dr Shirin said, "Our freedom is not gifted by anyone. So we have to work tirelessly to maintain respect, love, patriotism and loyalty towards this country," she said, putting stress on spreading the correct history of this country from generation to generation.
At this time, she distributed Eid gifts and development message leaflets among the people of Pirganj in a function at the same venue in memory of internationally reputed nuclear scientist Dr. MA Wazed Miah and noted Awami league leader Dr. SA Malek as the chief guest.

Bangabandhu Parishad Joint Secretary Dr. Sheikh Abdullah Al Mamun, Central Command Council Chairman of Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad Major General (Retd.) Helal Morshed Khan, Bangladesh Psychological Association Secretary General Professor Dr. Shamsuddin Elias and World University Chairman MA Mannan delivered speeches.
Speaking on the occasion, the Speaker said the Bangabandhu Parishad is working to spread the ideals, philosophy and works of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman everywhere.
"This Parishad promotes Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's development activities all over Bangladesh and provides help and services to the helpless, distressed people in remote areas, which are highly commendable," she said.
At this time, she especially thanked the members of Bangabandhu Parishad for coming to Pirganj in memory of internationally renowned nuclear scientist Dr. MA Wazed Miah and Dr. SA Malek.
Later, Dr. Shirin came to Pirganj Old Upazila Parishad ground and distributed dry foods to 500 people and saree-lungis to 1600 people as Eid gifts from her own funds and hoped that the upcoming holy Eid-ul-Fitr would bring peace and happiness in everyone's lives.
Besides, she distributed 44 sewing machines, 40 spray machines, 40 wheelchairs and 200 bicycles to the beneficiaries of Tukuria, Bara Alampur, Raipur and Pirganj Unions of Pirganj upazila, along with 40 lakh rupees 'Kabita' and 63 metric tons of food grains as 'Kabikha' on the occasion.
Pirganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer Biroda Rani Roy, officials of Pirganj upazila administration, local and district level Awami League and organizational leaders, dignitaries and media workers were present at the events.
