CPA observes ‘Port Day’ in Ctg

CHATTOGRAM, April 25, 2023 (BSS) - Chattogram Port Authority (CPA) today observed the ‘Port Day’ marking the 135th founding anniversary of the country’s premier Chattogram Port.

In observance of the day, the CPA has taken elaborate programmes including hoisting of the national and CPA flags at Port Bhaban, discussions, view-exchange and colourful cultural function. On this occasion, the CPA also accorded reception to its retired employees.

Chairman of the Chattogram Port Authority Rear Admiral M Shahjahan said a total of 50 software modules are being developed to automate various departments with the aim of transforming the Chattagram Port into an international standard port. Through which it will be possible to turn the port into a paperless institution, he added.

He said, initiatives have been taken to build state-of-art chemical sheds to facilitate safe import and export of hazardous, radioactive and chemical products.

“The port area limit has been increased from seven nautical miles to 62 nautical miles. Procurement of two modern scanners to scan export containers is underway, which will be in place by June 2023.

He said this while talking to the journalists after participating at a function at Munshi Fazlur Rahman Auditorium this morning.

High officials of the CPA and officials of different government offices in Chattagram, port users, business leaders, among others, attended function.
