DHAKA, April 30, 2023 (BSS) - Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested fugitive war criminal Md Montaz Ali alias Momtaz, 76, who was sentenced to death for crimes against humanity during the Liberation War, from Chandra Thana area of Gazipur on Friday evening.

The arrested Momtaz is the son of late Shamsher Uddin Bepari of Nandina village under Gaibandha Sadar Police Station.

RAB-3 Commander Lt Col Arif Mohiuddin confirmed the matter to BSS today saying that he was arrested following a secret operation at Kaliakoir in Gazipur around 7pm on Friday.

Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police (Media) of RAB-3 Farzana Haque said that Momtaz was awarded with the capital punishment as most of the accusations against him including murder, mass murder, kidnap, torture, arson and rape were proven beyond reasonable doubt in 2016.

He has been handed over to the concerned authority, she added.
