GAZIPUR, April 30, 2023 (BSS) - The nomination paper of Jahangir Alam, independent mayor candidate for Gazipur City Corporation, has been cancelled during verification.

The Returning Officer, however, declared nomination papers of nine candidates, including Awami League backed candidate Azmat Ullah Khan and Jahangir's mother Jayeda Khatun, valid.

Returning Officer Md Faridul Islam announced this decision after verifying the nomination papers in presence of Jahangir Alam on Sunday morning.

Faridul Islam said that Jahangir Alam's nomination paper has been rejected as he is a loan defaulter, as per the Credit Information Bureau (CIB) report of Bangladesh Bank.

The verification has been going on at the office of the returning officer, set up at Bongotaj Auditorium of Gazipur City Corporation.
