RAJSHAHI, May 22, 2023 (BSS)- AHM Khairuzzaman Liton has submitted his
nomination paper for contesting in the upcoming election for the mayoral post
of Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) here today.

Liton accompanied by scores of leaders, workers and followers submitted
nomination paper to Returning Officer and Regional Election Officer Delwar
Hossain at his office.

Earlier on Sunday last, he resigned from the RCC Mayor post for taking part
in the election scheduled to be held on June 21.

After submission of the nomination paper, Khairuzzaman Liton talked to the
journalists saying he will complete all the unfinished development works if
he is reelected.
 
Liton, who is presidium member of Bangladesh Awami League (AL), will contest
in the upcoming mayoral election as he was nominated by his party high
command for the election.
 
"We will expand the existing 96 square kilometer city area to around 400
square kilometers consisting of the adjacent areas, including the char
(riverbed) of the Padma river if I was voted to power again," Liton said,
adding that five more flyovers will be constructed for the overall
development of the metropolis by freeing it from traffic congestion.
 
Various other development works are being implemented as part of RCC's Taka
2,993-crore project titled 'Integrated Urban Infrastructure Development in
Rajshahi City' at present.
 
Many of those have become visible which are being acclaimed by people of both
home and abroad.
 
Liton said they will formulate a long-term master plan for building the city
as more planned, green and habitable.
 
He has plans for establishing an agricultural university, more standard
schools and colleges along with turning the city into a tourism one to
attract more tourists.

Creation of job opportunities issue will get priority through establishing
small and medium enterprises during his next mayoral term, the presidium
member of AL added.
