DHAKA, Aug 22, 2021 (BSS) –State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid today urged engineers to contribute more to build the 'Sonar Bangla' as dreamt by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

"Engineers have to contribute more to build the 'Sonar Bangla' as per the dream of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Soon after independence, Bangabandhu encouraged engineers to devote themselves to building the war-torn country. Bangabandhu also arranged for the training of engineers at home and abroad at that time," he said.

The state minister said this while addressing a virtual discussion on National Mourning Day organized by Bangabandhu Engineering Council and Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) here.

The Father of the Nation made Ashuganj, Ghorashal and Siddhirganj as power hubs of Bangladesh in the newly independent country from 1972 to 1975, Nasrul said.

Like her father, Bangabandhu's daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is taking Bangladesh forward with deep patriotism and courage, he said.

Mentioning that the most advanced sector in Bangladesh is the power sector, he said the contribution of engineers in bringing the fragile power generation system to its present state before 2008 is undeniable.

Noted educationalist and former Dhaka University vice-chancellor Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique addressed the virtual discussion as the key discussant.

Bangladesh Awami League Science and Technology Affairs Secretary Md Abdus Sabur, Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) Chairman Engineer Belayet Hossain, Bangabandhu Engineering Council Central President Prof Habibur Rahman and Power Cell Director General Engineer Mohammad Hossain also spoke on the occasion as special guests.
