DHAKA, June 02, 2023 (BSS) - Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested a man, convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment in a case lodged over the murder of Shahidul Islam in Alfadanga, Faridpur, from the capital's Kadamtali area last night (Thursday).

The arrestee Md Iktar Mollah, 43, was on run in the case lodged over the 2012 murder of Shahidul Islam.

"Acting on tip-off, a team of RAB-3, arrested Iktar from Kadamtali last night," RAB-3 commanding officer Lt Col Arif Mohiuddin told BSS.

RAB sources said Shahidul Islam, who used to earn his bread and butter as a motorbike rider. Unidentified assailants on July 27, 2012, killed him and snatched his motorcycle. They threw his body in jute field.

"Shahidul's uncle filed the case on July 28, 2012, against five unidentified persons and the court in 2022 convicted and sentenced Md Iktar Mollah to life imprisonment in absentia. Iktar went into hiding right after filing of the case and managed to remain free so far," RAB commanding officer added.
