DHAKA, June 5, 2023 (BSS) - The World Environment Day-2023 was observed today at the Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST) campus in Mirpur, Dhaka.
A daylong program has been organized to celebrate "World Environment Day-2023" by the Environmental, Water Resources and Coastal Engineering (EWCE) department in association with MIST Environment Club and Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) at Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST) campus.
Acting commandant, MIST Brigadier General Md Wahidul Islam, SUP, ndc, psc graced the occasion as chief guest and Nur Ahamed Khondaker, assistant FAO representative (programme) was present as the guest of honor, said a press release.
The program was inaugurated with tree plantation by the chief guest followed by a seminar on the theme of World Environment Day-2023 "Beat Plastic Pollution".
Dr. Abdullah Al Muyeed, Chief Operating Officer (COO) of CWIS-FSM support cell, DPHE delivered keynote speech on the importance of combating plastic pollution for sustainable environment management.
A panel discussion followed by seminar was held with experts from FAO Bangladesh, Channel 24 and Youth net for climate justice and student representative from MIST Environment Club to create awareness about ways to reduce primary packaging agricultural input waste (Pesticide Packaging).
In these events future graduates of MIST, faculty members and representatives of FAO were present.
In different competitions such as Eco Olympiad, Poster Presentation, AutoCAD and case competition, hundreds of teams from MIST and other universities participated with huge zeal and enthusiasm.
The day-long events ended with the unveiling of EWCE departmental magazine, titled "ENVIRONIA" followed by a colorful cultural program.
