CEC urges voters to cast vote in time 

SYLHET, June 10, 2023 (BSS) - Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal today called upon the voters to cast their votes in time and assured them of security at the polling centers.

He made the call at a view-exchange meeting with candidates for mayoral, councillor and councillor posts reserved for women for upcoming Sylhet City Corporation (SCC) elections at Jalalabad Gas auditorium at Mendibagh in the city.

Sylhet Regional Election Office arranged it.

The CEC said there is no ghost in electronic voting machine (EMV) and it is the safest system in voting.

Alerting the candidates, Habibul Awal said candidates should not violate electoral code of conduct and candidature will be canceled if anyone is found guilty of breaching code of conduct.

"We will monitor the situation of all polling centers through CCTV surveillance," he said.

Sylhet Divisional Commissioner Dr Muhammad Mosharraf Hossain chaired the meeting while Election Commission Secretary Md Jahangir Alam, Sylhet Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md Elias Sharif, Sylhet Deputy Commissioner Md Majibur Rahman, Sylhet Regional Electoral Officer and City Corporation Elections Returning Officer Faisal Quader also joined it.

AL candidate for SCC polls Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury, Jatiya Party candidate Nazrul Islam Babul, Islami Andolon Bangladesh candidate Hafez Maulana Mahmudul Hasan and other mayoral candidates, councilor and reserved (women) councilor post candidates were present.

Later, the CEC also joined another meeting with law enforcers at Sylhet Deputy Commissioner's conference room. Eight candidates are for vying for mayoral post and 360 candidates for councillor posts in the SCC polls.
