Eliminating session jams, BRUR to distribute original certificates

By Md Mamun Islam

RANGPUR, June 12, 2023 (BSS) - Eliminating four-year session jams, the Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) authority is ready to distribute original certificates to overcome frustration of about 10 thousand graduates and postgraduates.

"Nearly 10,000 students have completed post-graduations in nine batches and graduations in ten batches of the university in the last 15 years of its establishment," Registrar of BRUR Engineer Mohammad Alamgir Chowdhury told BSS.

After completing graduation and post-graduation, students had to leave the campus with only provisional certificates.

Many of them had to go abroad for higher education. But, they could not complete the process of not having original certificates.

"After joining as the new Vice-chancellor on June 14, 2021, Professor Dr. Md. Hasibur Rashid instantaneously took pragmatic professional steps to end the four-year session jams accumulated over the previous years," the Registrar said.

Within a year, Professor Rashid eradicated the 14-year-long scourge of session jams through proper implementation of his plans in association with teachers and students.

"Students have been relieved from chronic frustrations caused by session jams to become able to complete graduations and post-graduations on time," Chowdhury said.

Talking to local reporters today, a number of students expressed their excitement at the news of giving original certificates to them soon.

Unfortunately, no former Vice-chancellors had taken into account the repeated demand of graduates for giving original certificates to them.

They thanked incumbent Vice-chancellor Professor Rashid for taking initiatives to eradicate session jams, giving original certificates and resolving other problems soon after assuming office two years back.

Meanwhile, all procedures for issuing original certificates have been completed to distribute those to graduate and post-graduate students.

As a result, major barriers and complications of graduate students going abroad for higher education due to lack of original certificates will end soon.

Hashem Bandhan, a Master's student of the Department of Geography and Environmental Science, said the first document that any foreign university prefers to obtain higher education is the original certificate.

"There are many students in the university who want to go abroad for higher education. But, most of them have not been able to get admissions abroad due to lack of original certificates," he said.

Hashem said he is interested in going abroad for higher education like many other students who have dreams of getting higher education from foreign universities.

"I was also very worried about the original certificate as I am also likely to get an offer letter for higher education in a foreign country in the next session," he said.

Esha Sharmin Haque, a student of the Department of Gender and Development Studies, said she recently got an opportunity to study for Masters at two Italian universities.

"But, a foreign university has agreed to admit me conditionally as I only have a provisional certificate. I have to get their clearance by providing the original certificate before the visa application," she said.

"Since the university administration has taken steps to give the original certificates to all graduates and postgraduates, many others like me will benefit from this initiative," Esha added.

Director of the Office of Student Affairs Syed Anowerul Azim said the present BRUR administration is working to protect the interests of students and has taken steps to solve this issue of original certificates.

"The Vice-chancellor is looking into the matter very seriously. This matter will be resolved very soon," he said.

Talking to BSS, Vice-chancellor Professor Dr. Rashid said many students of the university informed him about their problems of not getting original certificates and the complexities being faced by them.

"I have taken the necessary steps for the convenience of graduate and post-graduate students," he said, hoping that original certificates will be distributed to them very soon.
