Steps taken for speedy removal of animal waste during Eid: Tajul

DHAKA, June 14, 2023 (BSS) - Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Md Tajul Islam today said necessary steps have been taken to remove sacrificial animal waste quickly during the forthcoming Eid-ul-Azha. 

"All city corporations, municipalities, districts and upazilas and union parishads (UPs) have completed their various preparations for Qurbani and quick-removal of sacrificial animal-waste," he said.

He added that appropriate legal measures will be taken through mobile courts so that cattle markets do not sit outside the specified places and do not create any kind of inconvenience in public life.

The minister said these while taking to the journalist after presiding over the inter-ministerial meeting to review the preparations for Eid-ul-Azha-2023, preparation of national Eidgah, management of cattle markets, slaughtering animals at specific places and speedy removal of waste at the local government division's conference room here, a press release said.

Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh, Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Md Atiqul Islam, Mayor of Barishal City Corporation Serniabat Sadiq Abdullah, Sylhet City Corporation Mayor Ariful Haque Choudhury and Secretary to the Local Government Division Muhammad Ibrahim attended the meeting, among others, the release added.

Tajul further said that steps have also been taken so that dengue related diseases can not spread from cattle markets and the process of Qurbani. 

He sought cooperation of the common people for the speedy removal of sacrificial waste in the country.

The minister informed journalists that initiatives have been taken to install necessary machines to detect fake currencies in the cattle market during Qurbani.

The local government minister said that the target has been set to collect the sacrificial animal waste before dusk.

However, to involve the public in this regard, awareness committees have been formed under the leadership of ward councilors so that the blood and waste of sacrificial animals are not thrown away here and there, he added.
