Govt urged to reject or amend digital security act

SANGSAD BHABAN, June 14, 2023 (BSS) - Chairman of the Workers Party of Bangladesh Rashed Khan Menon today urged the government to abolish or amend the digital security act (DSA)for the sake of country's democracy.

"The government should either eliminate or bring an amendment to some articles of the act for the greater interest of democracy and freedom of press", said Menon also a parliament member of Dhaka-8 while participating in the general discussion on the proposed national budget for 2023-24 at the Jatiya Sangsad here.

Deputy Speaker Shamsul Huque Tuku was in the chair.

Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal on June 1 unveiled Taka 7,61,785 crore national budget for 2023-24 fiscal setting the GDP growth target of 7.5 percent amid the ongoing global meltdown.
 
 Taking part in the budget discussion, the workers party leader said even there is a long controversy in the country on the act. The law minister also has admitted about the abuse of the act, he added. 

The veteran political leader has also urged the government to review the labor law as the act already has created confusion among the overseas people.

Menon expressed dissatisfaction over holding public meeting by the Jammat-e-Islami recently. 

Criticizing the role of the US government, Rashed Khan Mennon said the US government has imposed sanction on the government in past and recently they also has announced their visa policy which is not only inquisitive but also a part of strategy of their regime.
