CHATTOGRAM, June 20, 2023 (BSS) - A Chattogram court today asked Bangladesh Telecom Regulatory Commission (BTRC) to remove defamatory and misleading videos on YouTube and Facebook involving Dr Hasan Mahmud and his family members.
Chattogram Cyber Crime Tribunal Judge Zahirul Kabir passed the order.
The information minister's personal officer and Rangunia Upazila Awami League's publicity and publication secretary Mohammad Emrul Karim Rashed filed a case before the court on Tuesday against eight people including a Canadian expatriate journalist Nazmus Saqib.
The court also ordered Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) Counter Terrorism Unit to investigate the matter.
It also fixed the next date for hearing on August 10 next.
Earlier, a Jubo League leader filed a case against eight people including Canadian expatriate journalist Nazmus Saqib as the main accused under the Digital Security Act with Chawkbazar thana on Sunday.
Rashed filed the case against them for intentionally uploading a video containing false and fabricated information about Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud and his family members on YouTube and Facebook.
He said the accused intentionally presenting false information to defame Dr Hasan Mahmud, MP, and make harm politically, socially, and psychologically to him.
In the case statement, the plaintiff claimed that a video of 13.15 minutes was uploaded conspiratorially from a YouTube channel and Facebook page called 'Nagrik TV' against Dr Hasan Mahmud.
"In fact, the video containing an image which is completely false, fabricated, baseless, conspiratorial, defamatory and intentional," he claimed.
The plaintiff also mentioned in the case that those who will like comment and share the video in future, will also be charged.
