=DHAKA, July 1, 2023 (BSS) - Some areas in Dhaka went under water due to heavy rainfall, causing public sufferings on the third day of the holy Eid-ul-Azha, as traffic movement got slowed on the submerged roads.
It was heavy downpour in the capital for about an hour from around 3pm. Due to this, knee-deep water logged in the different parts of the city. This rain spoiled the joy of Eid as water logged in front of the house and it became difficult for many to leave the house.
As a result, many of those who had planned to go out with their families during the Eid holiday had to cancel those plans.
In the third day of Eid, the sky of the city was quite clear from morning to noon. Although the day started bright, around 3pm, suddenly it rained heavily for about an hour. Although the intensity of the rain reduced a little around 4 pm, it was dazzling until the evening.
Segunbagicha, Kakrail, Khilgaon, Shantinagar, Nayapaltan, Rajarbagh, Dakshinkhan, Bangshal, Nazirabazar, Mukimbazar, Gopibagh, Uttara, Rampura, Nakhalpara, Hatirjheel, Madhubag, Adabar, Satrasta, Moghbazar, Mirpur Road, Panthpath, Green Road, Kamalapur, Nazimuddin Road, Dhanmondi, Mirpur 13 and elsewhere in the capital were inundated with rainwater with the ongoing monsoon downpour.
Talking to BSS, Meteorologist of the Bangladesh Meteorological Department Manowar Hossain said that they recorded 80 millimeter rainfall in Dhaka city from 6am to 6:00pm today.
A senior official of the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) said they have already started working on water logging.
He informed that in the last 3 years, 136 places have been cleared of water logging.
Many more new projects have been taken up, he added.
As per weather forecast of the Bangladesh Meteorological Department for 24 Hours Commencing 06 PM today, light to moderate rain or thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur at most places over Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Khulna, Dhaka and Sylhet divisions and at many places over Barishal and Chattogram divisions with moderately heavy to very heavy falls at places over the country.
