DHAKA, July 14, 2023 (BSS) - Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today expressed profound shock and sorrow at the death of a celebrated singer from the Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra and valiant freedom fighter Bulbul Mahalanobis.
In the message of condolence, she said, "Bulbul Mahalanobis was simultaneously a poet, author, singer, recitalist, actor and presenter of art-literary-cultural programmes at the television and radio. She was one of the important personalities in the cultural arena."
"With Bubul's death the cultural arena has incurred an irreparable loss. The famous artist will remain alive with her works among the countrymen," she continued.
The Premier also prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.
The Prime Minister said Bulbul was one of the artists who took part in the song 'Bijoy Nishan Urchhe Oi' (The victory flag flies high), which was broadcast on radio to mark the historic moment of Bangladesh's victory in the 1971 Liberation War.
The eminent singer also served Rabindra Academy as General Secretary and was entrusted with important responsibilities in many cultural and social organizations such as Jatiya Kobita Porishad, Kochikachar Mela, Udichi, Sectors' Commander Forum and Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra.
Bulbul breathed her last at her Dhaka residence around 2am today due to old age complications. She was 70.
