Social dialogue on practice of good governance, RTI Act held

MYMENSINGH, July 18, 2023 (BSS) - A social dialogue on practice of good governance and Right to Information Act-2009 was held here today to enhance the empowerment of rural people by ensuring their access to information and increase the coordination and accountability in the activities of government and private institutions.

In association with the Friedrich Naumann Foundation Bangladesh (FNF Bangladesh), the Bangladesh NGOs Network for Radio and Communication (BNNRC) organized the dialogue titled 'Improving Living Standard of People through Practicing Good Governance and Applying Right to Information Act-2009', said a press release.

A total of 45 people, including local government representatives, government and private officials, teachers, lawyers and representatives from social and cultural organizations, NGOs and journalists attended 
the dialogue.

Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) Dr Abdul Malek inaugurated the talk as the chief guest with ASPADA Paribesh Unnayan Foundation Executive Director Lion Momahhad Abdur Rashid in the chair.
 
Mymensingh City Mayor Md Ekramul Haque Titu, Bangladesh Mahila Parishad President Monira Begum Anu, Joint Secretary Md Farid Ahmed and Additional Deputy Commissioner (general) Pulak Kanti Chakrabarti spoke at the function as special guests.
 
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Abdul Malek said the RTI Act-2009 was enacted during the first term of the present government.

This law is dedicated for the people and for establishing the good governance, he said, adding through this Act, the right of people to get information has been established as a fundamental right.
 
"This act is being implemented satisfactorily in all the government, autonomous and statutory bodies across the country," Dr Malek said. 

BNNRC Chief Executive Officer AHM Bazlur Rahman delivered the welcome speech while Country Representative of FNF Bangladesh Dr Nazmul Hossain presented activities of the organization in Bangladesh.

Social worker and researcher Md Shahidul Islam presented the keynote paper in the dialogue.
