DHAKA, Aug 2, 2023 (BSS) - Fisheries and Livestock Minister SM Rezaul Karim has underscored the need for putting emphasis on multipurpose use and processing of fish.

"We have to do many works for the development of the country's fisheries sector. We have to give importance to the multipurpose use and processing of fish," he said. 

The minister made the remarks while speaking at the evaluation and closing ceremony of the National Fisheries Week-2023 as the chief guest at a city hotel on Tuesday evening, said a press release here today. 

Many items can be made from fish, Rezaul said, adding that different items including 'Ready to cook' and 'Ready to Eat' should be made from fish.

Secretary of the Fisheries and Livestock Ministry Dr Nahid Rashid addressed the function as the special guest with Fisheries Department Director General Kh Mahbubul Haque in the chair. 

River Police chief Additional IGP Md Shafiqul Islam and Bangladesh Fisheries Development Corporation (BFDC) Chairman Sayeed Mahmood Belal Haider spoke at the function as guests of honor.

With the theme "Nirapad Machhe Varbo Desh, Gorbo Smart Bangladesh", the Fisheries Week-2023 was observed across the country this year from July 24 to 30.
