3-day Int’l public health conference begins at RU

RAJSHAHI, Aug 3, 2023 (BSS) - A three-day International Conference on Public Health began at Rajshahi University (RU) aimed at discussing and devising ways and means on how to improve public health.

The Health Research Group of the Department of Statistics at RU organized the first conference at the department conference hall.

Vice-chancellor (VC) Prof Golam Sabbir Sattar addressed the inaugural ceremony as the chief guest with Group Convener Prof Golam Hossain in the chair.

Science Faculty Dean Prof Shahed Zaman, department chairman Prof Rezaul Karim and group member Prof Monimul Haque also spoke on the occasion.

In his remarks, VC Prof Golam Sabbir said emphasis should be given on research for transforming Bangladesh into Smart Bangladesh envisioned by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina by 2041.

Collaborative efforts of all government and non-government organisations concerned have become crucial to ensure food safety for the greater interests of protecting public health from hazards.
 
 All sorts of unsafe foods like adulterated and contaminated ones are injurious to public health. So, there is no way but to ensure safe and nutritious food for all.

Prof Golam Sabbir mentioned collective efforts of all quarters including the government and non-government entities can be the crucial means of ensuring food safety for the sake of a sound public health.

In-taking of safe food through changing food habits are very important for maintaining sound health coupled with thwarting various non-contagious diseases.

He also said organizing such a type of conference is very important in the field of research in public health as the participating experts from both home and abroad will contribute to this field.

A total of four invited sessions, two plenary sessions and ten contributed sessions will be held in the conference where more than 100 public health experts, doctors and researchers are taking part from both home and abroad.
